8 Weeks Pregnant Ultrasound: What to Expect?
An 8 weeks pregnant ultrasound is an important event in a woman’s pregnancy journey. It is typically the first ultrasound scan that a pregnant woman undergoes, providing the first glimpse of the growing baby.
What to Expect During an 8 Weeks Pregnant Ultrasound?
During an 8 weeks pregnant ultrasound, the sonographer will apply a special gel on your stomach and move a small device, known as a transducer, across your belly. The transducer sends out sound waves that bounce off your baby’s body and are picked up again by the transducer. The sound waves are then translated into an image on a screen.
At this stage, your baby will look like a little blob with a flickering heartbeat. You may also be able to see a yolk sac, which provides nourishment to the baby until the placenta is fully formed.
Real Life Example
Let’s consider a real-life example. Sarah, a first-time mom-to-be, went for her 8 weeks pregnant ultrasound. She was excited and a little nervous. The sonographer applied the gel and moved the transducer across Sarah’s belly. On the screen, Sarah could see a small blob – her baby – and a flickering light, which was the baby’s heartbeat. The sonographer pointed out the yolk sac and explained its function. Sarah left the clinic feeling reassured and excited about her pregnancy journey.
